Shopify payment gateways in Singapore: PayNow, cards and GrabPay

Shopify Payments in Singapore covers cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and GrabPay, but not PayNow. How to add PayNow, and what each payment costs per order.

Key takeaways

  • Shopify Payments works in Singapore and accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, UnionPay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Shop Pay and GrabPay (early access). PayNow is not on Shopify's list (checked 20 October 2026).
  • Adding PayNow needs a third-party provider such as Stripe or HitPay. Shopify then charges its third-party fee on those orders: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus.
  • On a SGD 100 order on Grow, PayNow through HitPay costs about SGD 2.45 in fees against SGD 3.60 for a card on Shopify Payments, using the vendor's stated rates.

Singapore stores can use Shopify Payments, Shopify's own payment service. It covers cards and the main wallets, but not PayNow, which many Singapore shoppers expect at checkout. This guide sets out what Shopify Payments covers, how to add PayNow, and what each option costs per order.

Methods and fees were checked on 20 October 2026. Payment providers change rates and methods, so confirm the current rate card before you sign.

Which payment methods does Shopify Payments support in Singapore?

Shopify's help centre lists these methods for Singapore stores on Shopify Payments:

  • Cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express and UnionPay.
  • Wallets: Apple Pay, Google Pay and Shop Pay.
  • GrabPay, in early access, in SGD.
  • USDC, a US dollar stablecoin.

PayNow is not on the list. That is the main gap for Singapore checkouts.

What does Shopify Payments cost per order?

Shopify charges a card rate on each online payment, set by your plan. There are no setup fees.

Plan Yearly billing (per month) Online card rate In-person card rate
Basic SGD 29 3.2% + SGD 0.50 3% + SGD 0.50
Grow SGD 99 3.1% + SGD 0.50 2.9% + SGD 0.50
Advanced SGD 399 3% + SGD 0.50 2.75% + SGD 0.50
Plus From USD 2,300 (three-year term) – 2.6%

When Shopify Payments processes the payment, Shopify does not add its third-party provider fee. For in-store payments on Shopify's card readers, see Shopify POS in Singapore.

How do you accept PayNow on Shopify?

Through a third-party payment provider that offers PayNow. Two examples:

  • Stripe supports PayNow for Singapore businesses, in SGD.
  • HitPay publishes a Shopify app for Singapore and states PayNow rates of 0.65% + S$0.30 on payments of S$100 and above, or 0.9% (minimum S$0.20) below S$100, plus 0.5% for the Shopify app. These are HitPay's own stated rates.

Before signing with any provider, check that it connects to your Shopify checkout. Look for its Shopify App Store listing or its own Shopify setup guide, and run a test order on mobile.

When a third-party provider processes a payment, Shopify charges its third-party provider fee on top of the provider's rate: 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. This fee is easy to miss, and on Basic it can cost more than the provider itself.

Is PayNow cheaper than cards on Shopify?

It depends on your plan and order value. The table adds up the fees per order using HitPay's stated PayNow rates and Shopify's published rates. It excludes any other charges your provider or bank may apply.

Order Plan PayNow through HitPay (HitPay rate + app 0.5% + Shopify fee) Card on Shopify Payments
SGD 50 Basic SGD 0.45 + 0.25 + 1.00 = SGD 1.70 SGD 2.10
SGD 50 Grow SGD 0.45 + 0.25 + 0.50 = SGD 1.20 SGD 2.05
SGD 50 Advanced SGD 0.45 + 0.25 + 0.30 = SGD 1.00 SGD 2.00
SGD 100 Basic SGD 0.95 + 0.50 + 2.00 = SGD 3.45 SGD 3.70
SGD 100 Grow SGD 0.95 + 0.50 + 1.00 = SGD 2.45 SGD 3.60
SGD 100 Advanced SGD 0.95 + 0.50 + 0.60 = SGD 2.05 SGD 3.50

On these figures PayNow costs less per order than a card on every plan, and the gap widens on Grow and Advanced because Shopify's third-party fee falls. Most stores offer both: cards and wallets on Shopify Payments, PayNow through a third-party provider.

How do you choose a payment setup?

  1. Pull your payment mix. What share of orders would pay by card, PayNow, GrabPay or Apple Pay, and what is the average order value?
  2. Calculate the full rate per method. Provider rate, any app fee and Shopify's third-party fee for the provider's orders. Use the table above as the template.
  3. Check the plan. At higher PayNow volume, a plan with a lower third-party fee can cost less overall. Our Shopify pricing guide shows where the plans cross over.
  4. Test the checkout. Run test orders on mobile for every method and count the steps the shopper sees.
  5. Check refunds. Find out whether PayNow refunds are issued from Shopify admin or from the provider's dashboard.
  6. Plan reconciliation. Shopify Payments and the PayNow provider pay out separately, and both have to match Shopify orders in your accounts.

When do you need custom work?

Most stores install a provider's app and go live once the provider approves the account. Custom work comes in when payouts, refunds and fees from two providers need to flow into accounting or an ERP automatically. We build those connections as custom integrations, and set up payments as part of Shopify development.
